WHAT'S UP C. Nason reviewed what to observe over the next month. Ed O. added the M95 supernova and next year's Pan-STARRS comet.
 
OBSERVING REPORTS M. Powell observing Jupiter and its moons, Venus and M42; Curt spotted Mercury amid bird songs and lion roars; June, Marc and Curt did public observing at the Algonquin for Earth Hour for about 30 people.
 
ASTRONOMY TALK Peter gave Part 1 of a talk on the Magnetic Sun. He covered the basic facts of the Sun, magnetism, electromagnetic spectrum, solar fusion, radiative and convection zones.
 
SHOW AND TELL Peter had 2 books: Firefly Observing Guide to the Sun and 1001 Celestial Wonders to See Before You Die. Mike P. had a Meade 5000 2x Barlow and 2" WO carbon fibre diagonal (remarkably, Peter used to have both these). Curt had a book Prism and Lens Making. Chris C. brought an observing chair with sliding seat. June brought 3 books: Planet Earth, Coming of Age in the Milky Way, and The Universe. Kim M. brought a book Our Universe and donated Astronomy. Thanks Kim!
 
OBSERVING Clouds were moving in but some stayed to observe Venus, Mars and Saturn, and caught a pass of the ISS.
