Curt covered the things to watch for in the sky over the month, including where to find the planets and what to look for, and featured the crater Tycho on the Moon.

Myrtle G. had been keeping an eye on Venus and Mars; Dave B. saw Jupiter's Red Spot at Mactaquac; Mike C. was bino observing the planets and was surprised by a Chinese lantern; several witnessed the fireball on August 1 late evening; Curt observed all 8 planets on the night of July 30.

Mike Powell gave a thorough summary of the basic equipment used by amateur astronomers, including binoculars, types of telescopes, eyepieces, accessories such as filters, cameras and astrophoto gear, and useful resources.

Mike P. had set up his milestone birthday present, a CGEM5 mount. June displayed the astronomy quilt made by Judy M. and her. Myrtle G. brought a newspaper clipping and magazine from a Bangor astronomy club she had visited; Mike C. brought Efstonscience catalogues; Al H. had a 5" Antares refractor he bought on astrobuysell; Dave D. displayed photos of the Sun he had taken recently.
