RASC Intro & News Peter Jensen outlined upcoming events for 2010 Beyond IYA, followed by a presentation on his Monthly Messier Tour. He adapted this program to break the 110 Messier objects into monthly groups to help manage and maintain focus on attempts to complete the list in a year. WHAT'S UP Curt Nason highlighted what to look for in the sky and the events coming up for the next month.
 
OBSERVING Chris M.observed the Double Cluster; Dave D. was observing at Mt. Carleton over Thanksgiving; George J. watched a storm on Jupiter; Chris C. has been plotting a light curve for Mira; Shawn M. did light surveys with a Sky Quality Meter for SE NB; Al H, Mike P and Curt N. did a talk and observing session at St. martins School; Adrien B. and Curt N. did a talk at Brundage Point and others helped with observing after.
 
SHOW AND TELL Richard Bourque had a focal reducer / corrector. Dave Beaudin brought a book on the Universe. June MacDonald received a book and DVD sets. Emma MacPhee brought a meteorite from the Shikote-Alin fall (c. 1947). Curt Nason bought a used Moto-Focus for his C8 and struck it rich in the used book market. SJAC also received a book The Meteorites of Alberta by AJ Whyte.
 
Talk: The Colours of Luna Tim Doucette talked on the many colours we see of and on the Moon and why we see them. He then walked us through a demonstration on using Photoshop to bring out the colours in Moon images.
 
Observer's Handbook Talk Curt covered the section in the RASC Observer's Handbook on the electromagnetic spectrum, and added how astronomy has progressed by observing across the spectrum with specialized telescopes on land and in space.
 
RASC General Assembly Paul Gray outlined the events being planned for the RASC GA being held for the first time in NB, at UNBF, July 1-4. See the RASC website (rasc.ca) for details.
