WHAT'S UP Curt highlighted what to look for in the sky and the events coming up for the next month.
 
OBSERVING June M. enjoyed a dark sky at the RASC GA in Saskatchewan and observed the Moon in her backyard. Peter J. gave a briefing of Nova East star party. Mike P. showed a video of the radio conversation with Robert Thirsk on the ISS from Nova East., and he had observed a double shadow transit of Jupiter's moons from his yard. Ed K. observed Jupiter from his yard with neighbours. Al H. had been observing many new-to-him objects. Chris C. observed M11 and R Scuti. Curt N. observed the double shadow transit, Comet Christensen, and a bino view of low sunset clouds while looking for Mercury that resembled Jupiter from orbit. Chris M. has seen M57, M13 and Jupiter in his new scope. A good group of members did public observing at the Irving Nature Park.
 
CONSTELLATION TALK June talked on Sagittarius and its many Messier objects, the Sagittarius A* black hole in the centre of our galaxy, and the mythology of Ixion and Nephele creating Centauros, who engendered the centaurs.
 
SHOW AND TELL Chris M. has bought a 6" Starblast; Angela has a new green laser pointer for the sky and her cats' amusement; June had a tickle trunk full of stuff from the GA and several books from a recent book sale.
 
SOLAR ECLIPSE Jacky showed a video of the July solar eclipse in China.
 
BUSINESS Club scope: Ed Kaine; PST - Curt keeps; 1 copy of NightWatch (K. Horgan); No one took the DVD “Destiny in Space”; DVD “Understanding the Universe, Part 1 - Adrien; Part 2 - D. Thorn; Part 4 returned by John Dunlap; Shawn has the Mars book; Ed Kaine still has “Cosmic Perspective”; no one took “Backyard Astronomer's Guide”; Marc will demo the observing e-mail list next meeting; Dave & Sonia will check on using St. Anne's Church hall in Glen Falls for the Christmas party; Curt will check into a float for the Santa Claus Parade.
 
OBSERVING After the meeting several telescopes were set up for observing.
