WHAT'S UP Curt highlighted what to look for in the sky and the events coming up for the next month.
 
OBSERVING Ed O. and Ted Dunphy (Fredericton) saw the impact on scar Jupiter and Comet Christensen through Ted's scope at Mactaquac. Curt N. saw a good crop of sunspots and made an unsuccessful stab at Mercury. June M. did a couple of solar observing sessions at the hospital with the PST. Dave D. observed Jupiter and Neptune, and sunspots. Dave M. took images of Venus, Jupiter and maybe Neptune.
 
CONSTELLATION TALK Peter talked on Ursa Major, including the stories of Callisto / Arcas and the Mic Mac legend of the hunters. He showed many caricatures of the bear.
 
SHOW AND TELL Dave D. had a double solar filter and a double book of Stephen Hawking: "The Illustrated A Brief History of Time" and "The Universe in a Nutshell." Curt N. had a book "The Great Atlas of the Universe" by L. Benacchio. Both books were on sale at Coles. Curt also has a Glovelite, a thumb-forefinger glove with built-in red LEDs.
 
TRIP REPORT PRESENTATIONS Jacky S. showed pictures of the ISS and of the total solar eclipse, which he observed in China. Angela D. showed slides of the Montreal Planetarium.
 
BUSINESS Club scope: Ed Kaine; PST went to Curt; 1 copy of NightWatch (K. Horgan); No one took the DVD “Destiny in Space”; DVD “Understanding the Universe, Part 1, was borrowed by Adrien; Part 2 - D. Thorn; Part 4 - John Dunlap; Shawn has the Mars book; Ed Kaine still has “Cosmic Perspective”; no one took “Backyard Astronomer's Guide”
 
ASTRONOMY TALK George J. gave an informative blackboard talk on planetary nebulae, including the fusion process, stages of star development for solar mass stars, and the collapse to a white dwarf.
 
OBSERVING After the meeting Adrien turned out the parking lot lights and several telescopes were set up for observing.
