WHAT'S UP |
Peter Jensen: some highlights: Mercury & Jupiter are 1° apart; Saturn is the only planet to be seen in the evening sky, in Leo – the rings are tilted at 4°; Mars & Venus can be seen in the East around 4 am June 1; the full Moon June 6 is near Antares (actually June 7 at 1 am); the Moon will be near Venus & Mars June 19, approx. 30 min. before sunrise, in the East; on May 30, Saturn, the Moon & Regulus will nicely form a triangle; Venus is also known as Lucifer when it is the “morning star”; Jupiter is 1° from Neptune; Ceres is in Leo now. Peter also reviewed June astronomy activities.

OBSERVING |
Dave Driscoll was excited to see the Markarian Chain (bound at each end by M87 & M84/85. Mike spent some time checking out Hercules cluster & Saturn. Ian observed Saturn & Titan.

SHOW AND TELL |
Peter of course had a few new things to show – new books (“Eyes on the Sky”) & a video on the HST. He also showed one of the official IYA books that comes with a CD. Steve brought his humungous 15x70 binos; Dave brought along a new eyepiece.

PHOTO SHOOT |
Angela showed the group a few photos of her Toronto specifically her trip to the DDO (David Dunlap Observatory) & Efstonscience Store.

BUSINESS |
Club scope went to Chris MacMackin; PST went to Adrien; 1 copy of NightWatch went to Carol Fox; No one took the DVD “Destiny in Space”; DVD “Understanding the Universe, Part 1, was borrowed by Sonia & David; Part 3 went to John Dunlap after he returned part 2; Shawn kept the Mars book; Ed Kaine still has “Cosmic Perspective”; no one took “Backyard Astronomer” & Roy Hess returned the DVD.
