WHAT'S UP C. Nason reviewed what to observe over the next month.
 
OBSERVING Adrien and Curt had been observing sunspots. Marc saw Jupiter naked eye in daylight Jan. 21. On Feb. 7 he caught Mercury and Mars, then had an amazing observation: a 15 hour Moon!!! Bob has been trying for the Horsehead Nebula. Al was up early to observe galaxies in Virgo. Neil has been watching Orion and Sirius.
 
ASTRONOMY TALK June talked about the NB star parties for this year.
 
SHOW AND TELL Al had a very recently purchased laser pointer and an Astrotech astrograph and Stellarvue 102 ED refractor with an Orion 2" diagonal. Mike obtained a plastic dew shield for his C8 and riser blocks. Chris has bought a Lunt solarscope from the same local supplier where Al got most of his stuff. June brought several books from a Coles close-out, including a Galileo pop-up. Curt had a book of papers from the RAS c. 1918 and a 1941 planisphere. Bob showed a candle in a red vase for observing light.

ASTRONOMY TALK Phil Webb gave an interesting presentation on the history of and the search for near Earth objects (NEOs), including the Barringer crater and program successes. A timely talk one day after the close passage of 2012 DA14 and the Chelyabinsk bolide.
 
ASTRONOMY TALK Further to Phil's talk, Curt ran through an old presentation of the Tunguska event of 1908.
